Care Guide for False Bandit Cory
Melini False Bandit Corys are typically found at the confluence of Rio Papurí and Rio Uaupés, Rio Negro water systems in the Amazonas, Brazil. They are named after Dr. Doug Melini who first discovered them. They can be kept in a wide range of aquarium conditions and are ideal for mixed community aquariums because of their small size and friendly disposition.

Ideal tank conditions would include sandy-like gravel, live aquarium plants, some manzanita branches, driftwood, and rocks. Putting in some botanicals such as catappa leaves or maoni pods would complete their habitat. Aquariums should also have some open areas where they can swim together in groups. False Bandit Corys are very social and should be kept in groups of six, and preferably more. They are very active fish and will constantly swim back and forth, providing never-ending entertainment.
False Bandit Corys can be kept with many other peaceful fishes, including discus, tetras, dwarf cichlids, plecos, guppies, and many other community fish. They are omnivorous and easy to feed. Use good quality sinking pellets like Fluval Bug Bites. Their diet can be supplemented with live and frozen foods such as Daphnia, Artemia, or bloodworms.
