A freshwater aquarium plant that’s native to Madagascar, the aponogeton longiplumulosus has beautiful, fluted or crinkled olive green leaves that grow in long tendrils — similar to vallisneria. If you’re looking to add a bit of color and life to your aquascape, this is the perfect choice! The olive green hue stands out among other plants and the purple flower accents range from lavender to dark violet in color.
Care and Maintenance of Aponogeton Longiplumulosus
The aponogeton longiplumulosus is not a very demanding freshwater aquarium plant, but it does best in soft water with a rich substrate to encourage more growth. We recommend adding plant root tabs in your substrate underneath the plant which will increase the plant’s growth considerably. Under ideal conditions, you’ll see that the plant flowers relatively frequently, but it does go through dormant periods that can last several weeks.
- Minimum Lighting Required: Low-Moderate
- Temperature Range: 73°F - 83°F
- Tank Placement: Midground and Background
We recommend this plant for larger tanks or as a focus plant in smaller tanks as it can grow up to 24 inches (61 cm) long and 2.5 inches (6 cm) wide.
