Description

Water Lettuce

Watter Lettuce is a very popular floating plant in the hobby. Depending on its environment, the leaves may grow from approximately 1 inch to 4 inches in size. The leaves look fleshy and are covered by tiny hairs, giving them a velvety-like texture. Watter Lettuce produces many fine roots that provide shade and hiding places for small fish in the aquarium.

Care & Maintenance for Water Lettuce

Water Lettuce is very easy to care for in the aquarium. It is most suitable for open top aquariums or those with good ventilation to prevent the leaves from drying up or getting damaged.

  • Minimum Lighting Required: Strong
  • Temperature Range: 72-82°F
  • Tank Placement: Floating

Watter Lettuce likes strong light and, under good conditions, will grow and propage fast. It is great at removing excess nutrients from the aquarium's water column, helping keep algea in check, water clean, and your fish healthy.

    Beautiful and healthy
Posted by Heather Dickens on 27 Jun 2025

I just received these plants yesterday and they’re in impeccable condition. Bright green, firm leaves, and healthy roots. They even smell amazingly fresh. I washed them according to the guidelines on this site as well as a brief 4 hour Alumn Powder dip as a precaution to avoid any snail issues. I planted in my 72 gallon open top tank last night in a corralled off side away from my filter. I hope they do well as my Angels love them. Highly recommend purchasing from here!

Three lovely plants came in looking just like the picture. Very healthy, and snail-free as far as I can tell. I've had them in my aquariums for just over a week. Love the look of them!

Plants are very nice size, very healthy, arrived quickly. They are a little more expensive than other aquatic plant suppliers but well worth it.

    Some damage
Posted by Neno Albert on 14 Aug 2020

A couple of leaves were yellowish and melting. I did have to trim off with a sharp blade. Roots on these plants are pretty delicate, so if you're tossing in your aquarium, I'd highly recommend presoaking in another bucket to let the stray ends fall off outside of your tank. I did this after a quick salt bath and rinse for about 30min and boy did they shed a lot! Plants look very healthy and no more melting evident.

    Great

Came in HUGE and healthy. Not as many “leaves” as the picture shows, and no extra runners like in the picture but still good.

    Huge!
Posted by Rachel Bond on 7 Jul 2020

I didn't realize these were as big as they are, they are stunningly beautiful. Perfect for a pond. The leaves were a bit yellowed and crunchy on the tips most likely from shipping in the heat, but all look healthy. Root systems in tact and more leaves growing. Shipped perfectly
