Java Moss (Vesicularia Dubyana)

Vesicularia Dubyana, commonly known as Java Moss, originates from India.  It is an adaptable and versatile plant that can be used in various ways in your aquarium.  For example, Java Moss can be used as a foreground plant placed among the bases of large stem plants attached to rocks, wood or just left on its own.  The plant will attach to any surface and will spread in all directions.  Java Moss uses rhizoids to attach itself to surfaces l. ike rocks or driftwood. Since it has no roots that burrow themselves in gravel or substrate, Java Moss absorbs excess nutrients from the water column, contributing to a healthier environment for your tank inhabitants. It is a hardy plant and regular fertilization will increase its rate of growth.  Java Moss is ideal in aquariums housing breeding or small fish or fry.

Care Guide for Java Moss

Java Moss is one of the least demanding aquatic plants in the hobby. It does not have any special water quality requirements, will grow in low light conditions, and does not require fertilization. However, if provided with more intense light and some fertilization, Java Moss will grow faster. Java Moss can be used in cold water tanks.

  • Minimum Lighting Required: Low
  • Temperature Range: 59-86° F
  • Tank Placement: Foreground, Specimen

You can let your moss grow over the bottom of the tank, or you can tie it to wood or rocks using scaper's glue or cotton thread. Java Moss looks particularly attractive when tied to branches or rocks, giving the aquarium a natural look.

I bought the 1 lb. Bag. Wow nice thick mat, green and healthy. I used 4 lb. Fishing line to attach to several pieces of aqua scape. Completely changed the look of tank, It now looks like a tropical rain forest. Wish there was a way to attach photo

Bought the quarter pound of java moss. It's definitely a lot of moss! Wasn't in the best of health when it comes in, but if you spread it out in the tank, the vast majority comes back green and healthy.

Amazing quantity. A tiny bit of brown which immediately bounced back to green. I will buy all my moss from here now and try other purchases as well.

Ordered quite a bit of Java. Came mostly brown, unfortunately. I soaked it immediately when i received it this morning. Found about 4 dead small crabs. Smelled pretty bad tbh. Hopefully it bounces back
