Description

Ludwigia Red (Ludwigia Repens) | Potted

Ludwigia is found in a variety of forms that may differ in leaf shape and color.  Ludwigia Red variety, also known as Creeping Ludwigia or Narrow-leaf Ludwigia, produces beautiful olive-green to light brown leaves which may get darker with more intense reddish hues as they approach the water's surface. We love this plant because it tends to produce leaves that vary in color and hue.

How to Care for Ludwiga Red

Ludwigia Red is highly adaptable and fast-growing.  As it reaches the surface, the leaves become more compact and the stems will grow horizontally.  Regular pruning is recommended and will keep the plant tidy, more compact, and healthy.

Ludwigia Red will grow best under good light. And, if your goal is to turn the plant’s leaves intense red, more intense lighting is recommended. The plant does not have any special requirements and should thrive in a variety of aquarium conditions. However, it will grow faster when planted in a nutrient-rich substrate and fertilizers are added.

  • Minimum Lighting: Moderate
  • Temperature Range: 71-83°F
  • Tank Placement: Background

Because Ludwigia Red can grow fast and tall, it is a perfect plant for the background areas of the aquarium. It can be strategically planted to obscure or hide various tank equipment like heaters or canister filter intakes. Propagation of Ludwigia Red is done by cuttings and side shoots. Simply cut the top portion of the plant and planted it into the substrate. Using aquascaping tweezers will make this a very easy task.

Ludwigia Red is also available bareroot.
