Description

Pennywort Brazilian

Pennywort Brazilian, known by its scientific name as Hydrocotyle Leucocephala, originates from Brazil. This aquarium plant has unusually shaped leaves that are usually about one to two inches in diameter.

Care & Maintenance

Pennywort Brazilian is easy to grow because it adapts well to varied water conditions. It will grow especially well and fast when provided with good or intense lighting. Because of its fast pace of growth, Pennywort may have to be trimmed regularly to maintain a more dense or compact appearance. If left untrimmed, the plant will quickly reach the surface of the water where the leaves will spread rapidly and provide shading to the fish below. When trimming the plant, using sharp aquascaping scissors is highly recommended.

Minimum Lighting Required: Medium
Temperature Range: 59-82°F
Tank Placement: Midground

This plant can be planted in the foreground, and midground or can be left floating on the surface of the aquarium water providing shading, cover, and making skittish fish feel more secure.

Pennywort Brazilian is also available potted.

    Mixed emotions!
Posted by Lauren on 18 May 2023

Upon arrival, this plant did have one snail present. It was also extremely difficult to plant into my substrate as the "bundle" was composed of multiple stems that each needed to be individually planted into my substrate. Throughout the first month, I lost at least three different stems of the plant due to melting in my tank. My snails also enjoy burying themselves underneath my pennywort and pushing it out of the substrate for fun. After the plant finally started to grow roots, I have seen multiple new leaves grow off of the existing stems of the plant! After a rough first couple of weeks, it seems like I finally am seeing some growth! Whenever my snails push my pennywort out of the substrate, I am easily able to rebury the base of the plant and they continue to grow. Overall, I would recommend, but there may be some trial and error involved!

The pennywort I received were pretty much like the photo. I didn't get a chance to plant them right away; after a week they still looked great. Healthy and ready for planting.

I really love this plant. It has nice wispy roots at the junctions which give another form of texture. Sturdy plants.

The Pennywort arrived quickly and was well-packaged. The Plants I received were in beautiful condition – looked very green and healthy. After a few Days I planted them in both an inside Aquarium and an outdoor Pond. I did not see an "Hitch-Hikers".

Growing great, even after being damaged in cold/delayed shipping

This plant really wants to grow! I've had it in my tanks for a week now and the roots have been growing nonstop! There was a significant amount of leaf damage on the bunches, most likely due to being jostled around in an unheated box by FedEx and then delayed for two extra days. Thankfully, there is new leaf growth already - this plant is proving to be very hardy!

Surprised to see the amount of plant in each bunch and even though this was a winter shipment all the plant looked healthy and strong.

Plants were beautiful but the mollies literally ate them almost down to the stems. I'm not sure if they can come back from that.
