Originating from Africa, Ammania Gracilis, also commonly referred to as Delicate Ammannia or Red Ammania, is a beautiful red-colored bunch plant suitable for aquariums with good lighting. It produces small, oval-shaped, and delicate-looking leaves on similarly colored stems.

How to Care for Ammania Gracilis

Under good conditions, with proper light and fertilization, Ammania Gracilis will grow fast. Its color can vary from orange to red depending on light intensity and the aquarium environment. The plant prefers nutrient-rich substrate.  While not necessary, liquid fertilizers will help Ammania in producing more intensely red-colored leaves. Trimming the plant regularly will keep it compact and looking "full."

With its interesting leaf shape, Ammania will look beautiful when planted in groups and set around other plants with green leaves.  It should be planted in the mid and background areas of your aquarium. You can also plant shorter foreground plants around its base for a nice and contrasting look.  Under good conditions, Ammania Gracilis can potentially reach the top of the aquarium.  This is a medium to fast-growing plant, depending on the light and nutrient conditions.  Propagation of Ammania is done by cuttings and side shoots.
