Description

Tiger Lotus (Nymphaea Lotus)

Tiger Lotus, also known by its scientific name as Nymphaea Lotus, originates from East Africa and Southeast Asia. The leaves of this plant will grow up to 8 inches long and, if not pruned, will quickly reach the surface of the water where they will float, providing shade in the aquarium and making fish feel more secure. The leaves can come in a variety of shades and colors from green to dark red, with patches of purple or red-brown.

Care Guide For Tiger Lotus

Tiger Lotus will appreciate good light and fertilization. Provided with good conditions, this tropical lily will grow fast and start quickly producing several leaves sometimes in the manner of just a few days. Tiger Lotus can be kept compact and submerged by regularly cutting leaves racing up to the top of the aquarium and by providing good lighting. The roots of the plant will spread quickly anchoring the plant securely in the substrate, allowing them to draw nutrients from it.

  • Minimum Lighting Required: Moderate
  • Temperature Range: 71-86°F
  • Tank Placement: Midground-Background

Tiger Lotus is a tropical lily and is an ideal plant to be a focal point in your aquarium. It should be planted in the midground or background. The plant propagates from daughter plants on runners.

Tiger Lotus is also available as potted and in bulbs.

    My feature plant!
Posted by Joel Montesano on 3 Nov 2022

The red tiger lotus is the feature plant in our 20 gallon. When I first received it, some of the leaves had melted and I thought the plant was dead. Thankfully I was told that what matters is the condition of the bulb. I stuck it in my tank, and within days new leaves began to appear. It is now the pride of our plant collection. Great purchase!

Planted this little gou in my tank with drift wood. The water colour is quite tan and so I thought it would look great there. Leaves are just starting to go a bit red now and is looking healthy. Will need to get more I think
