Description
Anubias on Driftwood | Large
Anubias on Driftwood (Large) is one of the easiest ways to make a tank look established from day one. You get a bold piece of natural wood with a mature Anubias already attached—no tying, no gluing, no waiting for roots to grab. Anubias species come from river and stream edges in Africa, where they naturally grow clinging to wood and stone in shallow, moving water. In the aquarium, that translates into a tough, adaptable plant with thick, dark green leaves that hold up well in real-world community tanks—even with active, boisterous fish.
Anubias on Driftwood (Large) Overview
Caring for Anubias on Driftwood (Large)
Anubias is a rhizome plant, meaning the thick horizontal stem (rhizome) should never be buried. With an attached driftwood piece, you’re already set up correctly—just place it where you want it and let the roots continue to strengthen their hold over time.
Anubias grows slowly, so it doesn’t demand frequent trimming or heavy fertilization. Low to moderate light is ideal, and gentle flow helps keep debris off the leaves. Because it’s a slow grower, very intense light can sometimes encourage algae on the leaf surfaces—so a stable lighting routine usually keeps it looking clean. If algae does appear, nerite snails and mystery snails are excellent at grazing algae from plant leaves and hardscape, and can also help with general cleanup and leftover organics that contribute to algae pressure.
- Light: Low
- Temperature Range: 69–86°F
- Placement: Foreground–Midground
- CO₂: Not required
- Difficulty: Easy
- Growth Rate: Slow
Once it’s in the tank, maintenance is simple: keep it out of heavy debris buildup, avoid burying the rhizome, and remove any older leaves that decline over time. The driftwood itself will also “age” beautifully, developing natural coloration and biofilm that shrimp love—making this one of those pieces that looks better and more natural the longer it’s in your aquarium.
Anubias are also available on driftwood in size small, as bare-root plants, potted, and on lava rock.
NOTE: Each plant/driftwood will have a unique look. The photo provides you with an idea of what it will look like and is not a representation of the exact item you will be receiving.

Much better than expected.
Posted by Donald Shinn on 13 Sep 2023I'd assumed they'd take a piece of dry driftwood, super glue on a piece of Anubias, throw it in the box, and ship it. I was wrong. The Anubias has obviously been growing on the driftwood, submerged, for some time as the roots are going around and through the driftwood. The driftwood was already waterlogged and sank readily in my tank. It was much better than expected. The driftwood is around ten inches long. The Anubias is well-established on the driftwood. I'm very happy with it.

Anubias on Driftwood
Posted by Katie Gavin on 19 Apr 2022I love it! Perfect addition to my tank. Only downfall is that it will not sink. I had to use a rock to keep it down.

Driftwood with Anubias
Posted by Came in healthy on 21 Oct 2021Absolutely loved the one I received. Wish the driftwood was bigger but I’m very happy with the purchase. Plants came in healthy. Slight yellowing on the edges but I’ve fed them nutrients and they’ve come back to full green. Great purchase for the money and plan on buying more.

Very Nice Piece
Posted by Jason Poole on 14 Sep 2021Have purchased 2 of these the second the drift wood was larger. They are perfect for adding a little height to your plant. Well packaged and attached. Have also purchased the small, plants almost the same size and drift wood fits in smaller spots so get both !
